[Message from Ms. Minori Masaki ]
Biological tissues are not just made of proteins—they contain all kinds of molecules. Most research focuses on genes or proteins, but I thought it would be fun to focus on lipids, which make up about half of the brain.
There are many ways to study lipids. Mass spectrometry is accurate, but its spatial resolution is limited, so I explored Raman scattering, starting from the device development and combining it with my biological knowledge to write the paper. Thanks to the Humanics program and collaborating with my co-first author Murakami-kun, we achieved results I couldn’t have done alone.
I’m grateful to Dr. Kano and all my co-authors, my parents for their support during data collection over the holidays, and of course, my husband and daughter.
