Doctoral degree programs for those considering a Ph.D.

I decided to continue my graduate studies in the Medical Sciences program at the University of Tsukuba, and I decided to pursue a doctoral degree as well. The main reasons for entering this PhD program were that I can learn a new field of study, the financial support is excellent, and the number of classes is small. I believe that learning a variety of fields will broaden my perspective and help me to solve all kinds of problems. One can learn a new field on one's own, but I think there is a limit to how it can be applied and the state-of-the-art technology at the textbook level. At the University of Tsukuba, there are professors from all fields of study and guidance is available. I am still in the learning stage, but I feel that in this environment I will be able to master both fields in five years. Without the financial aid, I would not have entered this degree program. Not only do I receive a tuition waiver, but I also receive a variety of financial support, which allows me to concentrate on my research without having to worry about money. The environment around me is also very fulfilling. Teachers and senior students are enthusiastic and courteous, and the administrative staff is willing to help me with matters other than my studies. The small number of classes has its advantages and disadvantages, but I am not very good at classes, so it was a good point for me. The small number of classes also allows me to engage in research activities. I would recommend this program to anyone who is considering a doctoral program.

I study skeletal muscle. The quantity and quality of muscle changes with aging, exercise, and muscle disease. I am trying to elucidate this mechanism from both molecular biology and mathematical science approaches. I hope to enjoy the rest of my research life by taking advantage of the wonderful environment.

A treadmill device for mice is used to measure muscle endurance capacity.

Skeletal muscles of mice are observed under a microscope.
